Strumbie Island software provides young learners and special needs students with a fun and safe way to develop social skills and emotional literacy.
Sunderland, VT, June 24, 2010 - Tool Factory announced today that it is now offering Strumbie Island educational software. Strumbie Island software and accompanying storybook support and encourage the development of emotional literacy by helping young and special needs students recognize, understand and appropriately express their emotions.
In Strumbie Island, students travel to the fictional land of Strumbie, an island with inhabitants so small they can only express one emotion at a time. Each colorful character in Strumbie Island is named after his or her strongest emotion, and learners explore a range of emotions through five interactive games and activities covering bullying to self-esteem building and more. Strumbie Island also includes a photocopiable storybook that highlights emotive words.
"We're excited to bring Strumbie Island to teachers in the United States," said Kendra Ericson, Tool Factory's Director of Educational Services. "The software addresses a significant need in a fun and engaging way. In addition, the software includes many accessibility options, including options for switch users, making it a valuable tool for both inclusive and mainstream classrooms."
Developed by Sherston America, Strumbie Island boasts advanced teacher features, including lesson plans for a full 10 week teaching program, as well as SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) and curriculum links and resources.
