Required products: Tool Factory Word Processor V2
Depending on how you are teaching literacy skills, the spell checker can be a real asset. You will notice if you misspell a word, the spell checker will automatically red-underline the errors. This gives the students the opportunity to correct any errors.
Make sure your project has a misspelled word in it.
1) Click the ABC icon to activate spell-checking. A list of suggestions appears.
2) Click one of the suggested replacement words. It will hi-light.
3) (Optional) Click the SAY icon. It will speak the hi-lighted suggestion.
4) Click REPLACE and the computer will replace the misspelled word with the suggestion. Continue until the spell checking is complete.
May times, your students won’t have the decoding skills to figure out which of the suggested words is the correct one. This is often true for ESL students and emerging readers. The SAY icon gives students an opportunity to hear the word spoken, allowing the student to match the familiar spoken word, with a possibly unfamiliar spelling of that word.
