Contents Tool Factory Workshop - Spanish Upgrade Making the Word Processor Talk
Grade: K-12
Required products: Tool Factory Word Processor V2
Instructions
One of the best features of Tool Factory Word Processor is that it talks. This is a fantastic feature to motivate school kids to write, particularly in an inclusion setting.

TALKING PROJECTS
Any text you add to your project can be spoken in a computer voice. Click the “Say” icon in the toolbar to trigger speech. The icon looks like a comic strip text bubble. Here are the steps:
1) Click on the page.
2) Type in some text.
3) Click the “Say” icon.

To speak a single line of text, click your mouse into a text box, then click the “Say” icon.
To speak your entire project from beginning to end, click your mouse into a white spot, then click the “Say” icon.

*Mac Users* Hi-light the text before clicking the “Say” icon. If you can’t find your icon, you have to click, click, click… the right facing arrow on the top left of the toolbar. It’s a little farther down the toolbar.

TALKING TUTOR
There is a built in tutor which can tell you what every icon on the interface is used for. It can also speak any word in the bank. Activate the tutor with non-readers and ESL students.

Win users – Right mouse click on any icon to hear the tutor.
Mac users – Ctrl + click to hear the tutor.

*Trouble-Shooting* If you don’t hear the computer voice, then you’ll need to turn your volume up. Any of these methods might work, depending on your computer:
· On most Win computers – There’s a little audio icon in the tool tray in the lower right corner of your desktop. Deselect Mute, and increase the volume slider.
· On Win laptops – FN + Page Up.
· START>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS or START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS will take you into the computer’s audio controls. Explore the tabs until you find the volume controls.
If you still don’t hear a sound, you are probably using Win 98 or earlier. Go get your Tool Factory Workshop CD and “Install speech”.
