  • Tool Factory Spreadsheet
    Overview
    Students create a menu for a mock restaurant in Tool Factory Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet calculates subtotal, tax, gratuity, and total charge.
    Instructions
    1. Student either makes up or researches prices for foods on menu.
    2. Student runs Tool Factory Spreadsheet, choosing to create a new spreadsheet.
    3. Student uses one column to name the menu items, the next for the unit price, the next for the quantity desired, and the last for the total price.
    4. Students use spreadsheet + and * formulas to multiply quantities with unit prices, to add the subtotal, to calculate tax and gratuity, and to add the final total.
    Follow-up Activities
    Students can determine ingredients of a favorite food, research the prices of those ingredients and the amount of each ingredient in the food, then caclulate the total cost to produce the food.
