ABC Connection Grade: K Subject(s): None Required products: Alphabet Track Materials Alphabet Track: Order the Alphabet Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault (or similar book) Large Alphabet Strip ABC Connection Letters ABC Connection Worksheet Overview This lesson will help students to learn and practice the letters of the alphabet. Instructions Instructions: 1. Have the students sing/recite the alphabet aloud. Point to each letter on the alphabet strip as the students say it. 2. Read aloud the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault (or a similar book). As you read about each new letter, hold up the matching letter card. 3. When you finish the story, pass out a letter of the alphabet to each student. 4. Begin with the letter ‘A’. Point to the letter A on the alphabet. Have the student with the letter ‘A’ come to the front of the room and stand under the letter ‘A’ on the alphabet strip. Continue with each letter of the alphabet until you reach ‘Z’. 5. Vary the activities. Ask the students to come up in groups (ABC, DEF ) or in a different order. Follow-up Activities ABC Connection worksheet o Review the directions for the ABC Connection worksheet and have the students complete the worksheet. Alphabet Track o Have the students open Alphabet Track and click on their user name. o Have the students click on the first activity, Order the Alphabet, and complete the activity. o As the students become more skilled with the alphabet, vary the activities. Type the Alphabet, Match and Identify, See and Remember, Hear and Remember, and Alphabet Battle are all excellent activities for teaching and practicing the alphabet.
