Students write reviews of films, concerts, museum exhibits, classmates' art, plays, and books. The writing process is followed using Tool Factory Word Processor. Students then rate events, shows, etc. with stars or any other consistent rating system in Tool Factory Spreadsheet.
1) Open the "Reviewing the Arts" worksheet and have students save it as their own.
2) Students may print out the worksheet and fill in the fields with pen or pencil, or they may work within the document on the computer.
3) Notes about audience/viewer reaction are added to the worksheet along with the other requested information in order to help students prepare for writing a review article.
4) Students open the "Reviewing the Arts Article Example" and notice the particular layout of this article. Of course, students may want to alter the format of their own article, but they should remember to include a headline, place and date, and photographs.
5) Students create a new document and compose their review. Remind students to save their work often.
6) As a separate feature on the Arts page of the newspaper, students may rate a variety of artistic events, exhibits, etc. in the "Art Review Rating Spreadsheet" which can be opened in Tool Factory Spreadsheet.
